Hot Buttered Rum



Hot buttered rum is usually a sugar-packed drink. With our special recipe, however, it doesn’t have to be. Made with our 5 Sparrows Sugar-Free White Chocolate, Sugar-Free Salted Caramel, and Sugar-Free Chai mixes, this drink is warming, comforting, and delicious - all without spiking your blood sugar.


What many people don’t know about hot buttered rum is that it actually dates back to a time before the American Revolution. Produced in the Caribbean islands, rum made its way to the US on trade ships and became an important part of American society and commerce. Fun fact: it was also an important political lubricant. George Washington is said to have supplied voters with 160 gallons of rum in return for votes. 


Whip a few of these up after a long day of skiing, a fun day of sledding with the kids, or during a quiet evening at home. 


Here’s how we make them:

 1.  Bring 12 oz. of water to a boil in a teapot. Pour the water into your 

      favorite mug

 2.  Mix in 1 tbsp. 5 Sparrows Sugar-Free White Chocolate,

       1 tbsp. 5 Sparrows Sugar-Free Salted Caramel, and

       1 tbsp. 5 Sparrows Sugar-Free Spiced Chai 

  3. Add 1 Shot (1.5 oz.) of Rum

  4. Top with a splash of cream (or fat-free milk) if desired.

  5. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and serve hot.
